An Owner’s Positive Take on IMPACT 2018: American Standard Circuits’ Founder & Chairman Gordhan Patel
July 31, 2018 | Patty Goldman, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 8 minutes
Patel: Oh, you're talking about the lawyer? That was very interesting. I really liked that because we learnt a lot about what changes are going on with HR Laws. Everybody is concerned about some of these new laws, about salaried employees’ overtime and other lawsuits. So that was very helpful to us. I enjoyed it. We seldom get a session like this and the subjects they covered are very important.
Goldman: We always learn so much at these events. Because you just don't have time to pay attention to it otherwise.
Patel: You're too busy with your day-to-day work, you don't have time to learn anything else, and so this is how you learn basically.
Goldman: This is our cram session.
Patel: This is the reason I come here. I usually don't go to trade shows or anything, but I come here because it tells us a lot about the policies, the changes in government, and what can help us in the long term. To me this is a very important session because it is one of the few times when we get to listen to and meet the right people.
Goldman: You can also make some good industry contacts.
Patel: That's right. And I'm involved with multiple manufacturing and R&D businesses in many different industry sectors; American Standard is just one of my businesses. Nowadays, R&D is survival. You need to keep reinvesting money in the business and keep developing new product lines. About five years ago we started working on developing our flex and rigid-flex business, and today approximately 15% of the jobs we run at our plant are flex and rigid-flex. So that's a very fast-growing area.
Goldman: You started at the right time.
Patel: Well, it's never too late.
Goldman: Never too late, I guess, in a growing industry.
Patel: That's right.
Goldman: Well thanks for your time!
Patel: My pleasure Patty, good to talk to you.
